Abstract
A review of the chapters in earlier editions of this book reveals the orientation of the content to be what we term in the US as ‘continuing education’. But since the review of library training practice and development in the US has not been included in earlier editions of this series, I have undertaken the task to provide an overall review of education and training for librarianship in the US. Thus this chapter is likely to be much more general than other chapters in this volume.
