Abstract

A large-eddy simulation (LES) of a Mach 1.3 jet flow is performed to assess the effect of plasma actuation on the development of flow and acoustic fields. The full geometry of an axisymmetric nozzle used in a companion experiment at Ohio State University is considered using the Chimera grid technique. Plasma actuation is modeled by a volumetric internal energy source in a three-dimensional space. The model actuators are applied to the baseline M = 1.3 jet flow and the jet weakly responds to the flapping-mode actuation at the jet preferred mode frequency.
