LASER TECHNOLOGY: THEORY AND OPERATING PRINCIPLES.

Abstract

Application of the principles of quantum electronics has yielded hundreds of lasers whose wavelengths span from the infrared to the X-ray region of the spectrum. This article presents a brief overview of the theory and operation of the laser and discusses several of its most prominent applications. It also considers the wavelengths of many ultraviolet, visible, and infrared lasers that are currently of interest for research or commercial applications and includes several important firsts that have been realized in the last year alone.
