Abstract

Statistical data of interest to persons in the labor field are produced by many agencies and organizations. The beginning of this paper lists some of the federal, state and private organizations that publish relevant data, along with a brief description of the data. The next two parts focus on two areas of labor statistics—labor force, employment and unemployment and union membership—that are frequently requested by users, indicating the sources and some of the characteristics of the data available. The final parts of the paper discuss gaps in the statistics resulting from the nature of agency programs and from federal budget cuts and offer some reasons for users problems in finding desired data.
