Abstract

The article features John Walthall, chief archaeologist at the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). In 1965, he started studying archaeology under David DeJarnette as a sophomore at the University of Alabama. He started working as chief archaeologist at IDOT in 1977, managing and coordinating archaeological research efforts at highway construction sites in Illinois.
