Abstract

The Lyapunov function formalism recently proposed for elaborating criteria of phase stability under irradiation is applied to a Bragg-Williams model of the order-disorder transition in Ni4Mo. For a given irradiation flux, the relative stability of the long range ordered structure (LRO with respect to the short range ordered one (SRO) is found to vary with increasing temperature according to the following sequence: LRO and SRO are first unstable; SRO is stable, LRO is not; SRO is more stable than LRO; LRO is more stable than SRO; SRO and LRO are both unstable. This sequence is in good agreement with published observations. The temperature intervals for the above domains however do not completely agree with the experiment. Possible quantitative improvements are suggested.
