Distribution of [{\textquoteleft}H]-progesteroae in tbe serum and cer-ebr id fulfow kttratmaal.k traocufar. intra-va&uil and systemic routes of ndministratiun in ovari-ectomised adult rhesus monkeys DAVID. G. F. X. and Duei. A. K.. Neuroendocrine Research Laboratory. Department of Anatomy. All-lndta Institute of Medical Sciences. New Delhi-IiOOl6. India The present studies were carried nut IO determtne the pal-tern of distribution of [{\textquoteleft}HI-progesterone in the serum and cerehrospmal Ruid (CSF) following its administ~tion by dilfercnt routes to adult ovariectomized rhesus monkeys. The dose of the steroid administered animal was 0.18 mCi (Sp. Acl. Y4 Ci mmol) and the following methods were used li>r administering the steroid: intranasal spray. tntravaginal spray. eye drops. intr~iven~~uos r intramuscular injecttons. The steroid was dissolved in ethanol :propylene glycol: water (?:3:4). Samples of venous blood and CSF from the cisterna magna were collected at intervals of 5. IO. IS. 30 and 60 min after administratton. Total radioactivity and ether extractable radioa~ivity were estimated by liquid scintillation spectrometry. The two salient findings in this study arc that (a) whilst the total radioactivity steadily increased in both the body fluids. ether extractable radioactivity reached its peak value around 15 mtn after administration. and (b) whilst radioactivity vvas present in the CSF after administering the steroid by diverse routes. the maximum amount of radioactivity was found in the CSF only after intranasal spraying.",
