Abstract
Explicit research interest in the consanguinity between international organizations and education as a field of inquiry is a recent development. It has grown with the demise of formal colonialism and the rise of the economic liberalization that emerged, and advanced rapidly, in the wake of the Cold War. The development of new communication technologies that shrink both time and space have played a crucial role in these more recent efforts. They shape the demands that globalization, and the knowledge economy, places on international organizations as agents of global change.
