N2 - Without knowing, Professor Leontief, in the late 1960s, stirred my colleagues and I to produce a long list of articles on the energy and labor directly and indirectly needed to produce the multitude of products and services flowing from a modern economy. Our purposes grew out of a need to find a way for consumers to reduce their impact on the environment. In more recent years, the work turned toward the blending of economic and ecological theory and practice.
