Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contribution

Abstract

Human effigy vessels, stone figurines, and other prehistoric artworks often depict what some believe to be tattoos. However, little regional evidence has been found to validate the assertions drawn from these artifacts. Numerous faunal artifacts collected from previous and ongoing excavations in the American Bottoms may fortify the importance of prehistoric body modification through tattooing. This paper will review the possible functionality and utilization of these unique faunaI tools.
