Inactivation of mycobacterium avium with chemical disinfectants

Abstract

The inactivation kinetics of M. avium with free chlorine was characterized by an initial fast drop followed by two segments of pseudo first-order kinetics. The CT concept was found to be valid within the concentration range of 1.0 - 10.0 mg/L as Cl2. The sequential application of free chlorine followed by monochloramine was found to show no significant presence of synergy or adaptive response when pretreated to remove < 0.5 logs.
