Abstract
Some law librarians fear that offering reference service to a pro se patron may lead to charges of unauthorized practice of law or to liability based on negligence or malpractice theories. Mr. Healey provides both legal and ethical analyses of the various questions surrounding the provision of assistance to such patrons.
