Abstract

Wireless smart sensors (WSS) have been drawn significant attention for structural health monitoring (SHM) in recent decade. A number of smart sensor platforms have been developed for SHM purposes; however, not many software or embedded processing strategy has been implemented for structural damage detection. In this paper, a receptance-based damage detection algorithm based on the stochastic dynamic damage locating vector method is implemented on Imote2 wireless smart sensor platform based on the Illinois SHM Services Toolsuite. The damage detection module is then combined into comprehensive damage detection software including data measurement, system identification, and damage detection for decentralized wireless sensor platform. The software with Imote2 is experimentally validated on a lab-scale bridge structure.
