Abstract

The project described in this report was conducted at the request of the Illinois Natural Resources/Water Resources Stakeholder Group and the Canadian National (CN) Railroad in compliance with a decision made by the Section of Environmental Analysis of the Surface Transportation Board. Our goal was to evaluate possible negative effects of increased train traffic on the former Elgin, Joliet, and Eastern (EJ&E) Railway on wildlife, plants, and aquatic resources of interest following purchase of this line by CN. Our study was restricted to natural areas, primarily county forest preserves, along the EJ&E line in the western Chicago metropolitan area.
