Abstract
A longitudinal study of 80 work teams drawn from four large business units at Texaco Inc. has just been completed. These teams were tracked over a three-year period in which a variety of sophisticated electronic communication systems were implemented. The research methods included interview survey, and observation data on team's use and perceived impacts of these systems. The study particularly focused on the impact of newer groupware tools. Although analysis of the data is not yet completed, it is believed that the results will yield important insights into the dynamic interplay between teams, technology, and new organizational forms.
