Abstract

What is personhood? Who or what may be considered persons or social actors? How can we "find" past persons and determine the means by which those persons were socially constructed? This paper serves as a foundation for this symposium, defining personhood and introducing the ways in which other social identities (community, gender, age, ethnicity, etc.) engage with material objects, the human body, and the social landscape to define a person.
