Abstract
The article presents the chemical residue analysis to identify a black drink ceremonialism at Cahokia, a historic site located near modern St. Louis, Missouri. Topics discussed include residues analysis based on differentially preserved drinks; various factors such as the porosity of ceramic paste, original firing temperature of the pottery that affect the analysis; and the analysis of eight ceramic beaker samples, excavated at four separate sites.
