Abstract

How does the COVID-19 pandemic affect those communities within sport that have already been marginalized and/or minoritized prior to this global health crisis? Guided by this question, this case study outlines implications for equity, diversity, and inclusion in U.S. intercollegiate sport in the context of COVID-19. Drawing from their experience working in and researching sport, the authors use the example of U.S. collegiate athletes to (1) highlight the impact of COVID-19 on minoritized populations in sport and (2) identify organizational strategies to counteract oppressive and harmful practices affecting vulnerable populations in sport.
