Abstract
One approach to understanding bee colony integration is to identify mechanisms underlying worker behaviour. Information on the behaviour of individual colony members can then be used to gain insight into the behaviour of the whole colony. This chapter describes the application of such an approach to the study of hormonal and genetic regulation of division of labour in Apis mellifera, and notes the significance of colony developmental plasticity. -from Author
