Abstract
This chapter offers useful tips to help journalists build essential knowledge of Latinx history, including the history of how Hispanics have been stereotyped and disparaged in the U.S. society through media representations. This chapter provides a brief conceptual understanding of the history of Latinx “othering” in the U.S. media, as well as theoretical tools that enable media practitioners to report, interpret and write about the nation’s largest marginalized group with credible journalistic authority. Understanding stories of the past is essential to insightful coverage of the present and future of Latinos as a group, and the United States as a whole.
