Abstract
A higher-order finite element analysis of infinite arrays to combine the infinite-array solution with an array factor to obtain an approximation to the original finite array problem was discussed. A numerical simulation tool that is capable of fast and reliable characterization of the properties of a general finite-by-infinite array was developed. The analysis takes one row of elements in the finite direction as the unit cell. The unit cell region was discretized with tetrahedral elements and the field was expanded with higher-order basis functions. The results were obtained using the tetrahedral discretization for best geometry modeling and the mixed-domain formulation together with a multifrontal solver.
