Abstract

Interest in the role and impact of international trade has been significantly heightened by the developments in multinational trade agreements and the various rounds of GATT and WTO. In attempting to measure the role that trade may play in an economy’s economic health, several new measures have been proposed; a series of papers examined the role of feedback loops and the underlying ideas from this methodology will be employed in this exploration but with a greater focus on notions of hierarchical inclusion. The chapter reviews two fundamental concepts - the fields of influence of change and the Schur-Banachiewicz ideas for the inversion of block matrices. It provides the analytical basis for the hierarchical inclusion of fields of influence. The interpretation of the changes can be presented in a visual form through the use of artificial economic landscapes that incorporate the fundamental properties of key sector analysis.
