Abstract

Folsomia candida is an edaphic springtail with a parthenogenetic mode of reproduction. This species is widely used in ecotoxicological tests due in part to its ease of rearing. Results from ecotoxicological tests across laboratory strains are deemed equivalent because different stocks of F. candida are assumed to be genetically similar due to their clonal reproductive mode. We have gathered several lines of genetic evidence that challenges this assumption of genetic homogeniety.
