Abstract
It has always been a consensus among interpreter trainers that training in consecutive interpretation provides a solid foundation to that in simultaneous. This is so because consecutive provides trainees with the practice in concentration and listening for the sense of the message, rather than its linguistic structure. This article discusses and corroborates this assumption and then provides suggestions on how to introduce consecutive in an interpreter training program.
