Abstract

Several explicit examples of magnetic field inhomogeneities which cause a noninteracting 2D electron droplet to finger were constructed. The semiclassical results are in excellent agreement with the Monte Carlo simulations of the droplet wave function. Beyond the semiclassical singularity, it was found that the droplet fissions.
