Field-dependent diamagnetic transition in magnetic superconductor Sm 1.85Ce0.85CuO4-y

Abstract

The measurement of the magnetic penetration depth of single crystal Sm 1.85Ce0.15CuI4-y down to 0.4K in dc fields up to 7kOe was presented. For insulation Sm2CuO, Sm 3+ was found to spin order at the Néel temperature, which is independent of the applied field. Superconducting Sm1.85Ce 0.15CuO4-y (Tc ≈23K) was found to show a sharp increase in diamagnetic screening below T*(H), which varied from 4.0K(H=0) to 0.5K (H=7 kOe). The unusual field dependence of T* indicated a spin-freezing transition that raised the superfluid density.
