Abstract

Auriculopalpebral nerve block: The auriculopalpebral nerve block provides akinesia of the orbicularis oculi muscle and can be used to prevent eyelid closure. Eyelid sensation persists. The auriculopalpebral nerve block can facilitate examination of a painful or fragile eye and is useful for diagnostic procedures including corneal culture and cytology. It can also be used for placement of subpalpebral lavage systems, as well as any other procedure in which a firmly closed lid would be prohibitive.
