Abstract

The energy dependence of nucleus-nucleus total cross sections (σ^NN_T) has been investigated for p, d, ³He, α, and ¹²C on ¹²C. The σ_T data exhibit an even more pronounced drop at medium energies than seen in the nucleus-nucleus σ_R data. Microscopic calculations based on the optical limit of the Glauber theory provide a good description of the available σ_T data.
