Abstract

A new formulation has been given to apply the newly-proposed PMP concept to lossy medium for FDTD simulation ranging from the wave equation to the diffusion equation regimes. A FDTD code was developed to simulate large elongated lossy and lossless media. The FDTD code using the PML ABC was tested against analytical solution for such a large elongated simulation region. Excellent agreement was achieved for both the lossy and the lossless cases. However, relatively larger number of PML layers are needed in order to absorb the waves at the side boundaries.
