Abstract
University of Illinois-based researchers used acid and alkaline electrolyzed water for pretreatment. The team employed a two-stage percolation with acid water from the anode of an electrolysis chamber and alkaline water from the cathode. The treatment improved digestibility of the biomass and enhanced the yields of total sugars.
