Abstract
This paper discusses the prospects of joint research efforts between Electric Utilities and Universities. Specifically, the paper focuses on cooperative efforts dealing with subjects of a long term nature. The time lag between theoretical or conceptual solutions to fundamental problems and practical implementation of new methods can easily exceed ten years.
