Abstract
A life span perspective on education gives consideration to the way in which education early in the life span alters trajectories of development throughout the life course, as well as to the ongoing effects of continued engagement in lifelong learning on development. Given the fact of longer life spans for successive generations, the ever-accelerating pace of knowledge development needed for work and managing everyday affairs, and the contributions of education to optimizing developmental outcomes, it is important that new models of life span education are developed.
