Abstract

The Middle East and North African (MENA) region seems to have rebounded from the ripple effects of the global financial crisis for the most part with relative strength. Despite their increased integration into the world economy over the past two decades, a number of their characteristics shielded most MENA countries from the full effects of the crisis and enabled them to resume growth after a brief slow down. Research on MENA economies is rapidly growing and overcoming the past scarcity of published work in the area. This book contributes to this process and make some of the recent original research on MENA countries available to scholars and policymakers. The articles in this volume examine a variety of issues in several MENA economies and shed light on their attempts at reaching sustainable economic development within the new environment of globalization and financial liberalization.
