Abstract
This article offers information on the East St. Louis Mound Center in Illinois. The site is threatened with development following the completion of the Mississippi River bridge. Information points include the razing of the East St. Louis mounds in 19th century as landfill for low lying areas, the identification by archaeological groups of intact living surfaces and remnants of mounds at site, and the need for urgent action to ensure the site's availability for future generations of Americans.
