Abstract

This paper describes the ongoing development of a random array design based on a low-profile canted antenna that delivers instantaneous wideband operation. The challenge is to arrive at an electrically large element that maintains a broadside radiation pattern over the operating band. Design approaches for the random arrays are discussed that provide good sidelobe performance over frequency while remaining practical and cost-effective to fabricate and operate.
