Abstract

Child development laboratory schools have a rich history of supporting the professional preparation of early childhood teachers. Although historically such programs were created to facilitate teaching, research and outreach/engagement activities, creating an environment in which preservice early childhood teachers can begin to bridge theory, research and practice has always been central to the mission of laboratory schools. The purpose of this chapter is to provide an overview of how resources available within laboratory schools can be used to extend the professional development of early childhood teachers, and how opportunities they provide can ultimately impact the early care and education field.
