Determining Characteristic Mode Metrics of Interest for Electrically Large Antenna Arrays

Abstract

Characteristic Mode Analysis (CMA)is often applied to electrically small designs. However, when studying the modal decompositions of electrically large structures with noncontiguous geometries, namely finite antenna arrays, one must adopt a new means of presenting and making use of CM data. In this work we explore some prominent differences for which one must account when studying CM data for larger designs.
