Abstract
High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was used for the detection of aromatic hydrocarbons in middle distillates. Two new methods namely the area percent response ratio and area slope intercept were derived from the HPLC method in this context. The methods involved the usage of hydrocarbon group type concentrates as reference standards. The derived methods were simple, accurate and provided rapid hydrocarbon detection in oil fractions. The acquired results were compared with the standard gas oil compositions which were prepared by mixing hydrocarbon concentrates.
