Abstract

Turbulent flow at Reynolds number 50,000 around a sphere with trip wire placed 75 ° from the frontal stagnation point is investigated using DES simu lation. The time-averaged results of the velocity field agree well with the measurements fro m literature and reveal good reproduction of the separation zone, as well as the extent of the recirculation region. While the near-wall velocities are captured well, the values in the wake are slightly under-predicted.
