Abstract

In this paper we consider the crack initiation and propagation in an elastic-brittle material (an epoxy sheet) containing randomly, rather than periodically, distributed holes and subjected to a uniaxial tension. This preliminary study, in which we present both experimental and numerical results, sets a basis for a fracture analysis of more complex material systems involving two phase composite materials with randomly arranged inclusions.
