Abstract

An essay is presented on periodization and chronology in historical studies of France, particularly commenting on the transition from premodern to modern history. It focuses on the idea of credit in French history, exploring the essay "No More Language Games," by Jay Smith and the book "Lending and Borrowing in Ancient Athens," by Paul Millett. The author also examines the influence of Marxism on historical studies.
