Abstract
The aim of this article is discuss the current scenario of Physical Education in Brazil, particularly in terms of the views of different research paradigms. We realize that the quantitative growth of the field has been unable to overcome some challenges of the area, particularly due to a fragmentation that has historical explanations. We conclude by urging researchers to dialogue more frequently; this is mandatory to help solve some problems that, on the edge, could even put at risk the existence of this academic discipline.
