Abstract
The measurement of strain gage data for cross lot bracing of a cut-and-cover tunnel project in Boston, Massachussetts is discussed. Strain development in the struts is measured using thermally matched vibrating wire strain gages (VWGS). VWGSs are installed on the steel struts supporting the excavations at selected section and are thermally matched to the steel. Analysis of the measured data shows that the strut thermal load coefficients decrease with increasing excavation depth and the placement of additional struts.
