Abstract
This chapter briefly reviews what an ethnomethodological approach to conversation analysis1 (CA) is and outlines themain issues and questions that are of interest to conversation analysts. I then show how the use of transcripts that are prepared according to the transcription conventions of CA permit second language acquisition (SLA) and classroom researchers to develop highly detailed microanalyses of second language learning activity.
