Abstract
Cranes are considered to be the most expensive and frequently-shared resources at the construction site. Since the operation of cranes has a great impact on a particular project, the operating characteristics of such machines should be known. Perhaps, the only way to do this is to use simulation techniques. Hence, the use of simulation techniques to assist construction engineers in modelling crane operations and providing insights into construction operations is discussed. The COOPS graphical simulation system is used to model several variables. An example is presented to demonstrate how one can model and simulate crane operations to obtain information for construction operation during and/or optimization.
