Abstract

This article offers a brief historical context and general overview of the field of communication sciences and disorders. Specifically, it provides basic information regarding the field's contributions to differential diagnosis of hearing, speech, and language disorders and summarizes standard intervention principles and practices. In addition, the article highlights the shifting nature of the field as it embraces theoretical, technological, and social change.
