Abstract
We do not disagree fully with the primary conclusion of Allen et al. (2011) that there is a tenuous relationship between adult stock density and recruitment in Largemouth Bass Micropterus salmoides ; previous studies from our group support that experimental result (Parkos and Wahl 2002, 2010). We do not agree, however, with Allen et al. (2011)'s contention “that reduced nest success via fishing activities would not be expected to reduce overall recruitment in many instances.” This conclusion ignores the level of variation in nesting behavior among individual males and the role these behaviors play in determining recruitment.
