Abstract
Biological rhythms, including circadian rhythms (daily, 24-h rhythms), are critical for successful reproduction. Daily rhythms are regulated by clock genes and clock proteins expressed in the master circadian clock located in the hypothalamus. Rhythms have been found in the expression of clock genes and proteins in male reproductive tissues, sex steroid hormones and enzymes, and locomotor and reproductive behaviors, with peaks and troughs throughout the day. In this chapter, we will discuss this recent work, as well as explore areas of future research.
