title = "CHARGE TRANSFER AND THERMO-CHROMIC PHENOMENA IN SOLID POLYELECTROLYTES.",
abstract = "This work studied a group of ionenes known as poly(xylyl viologens) (PXV's). The bipyridinium moiety present in the backbone of PXV's is known to exhibit chromatic activity, presumably as a result of charge-transfer complexation. The sensitivity of charge-transfer energy levels is these polymers to structural features and molecular environment is discussed in this paper. Pyridinium ionene polymers used in solid state reflectance studies were synthesized from anhydrous bipyridine and the corresponding dihaloxylene by the Menschutkin reaction. Diffuse reflectance data, x-ray scans, and thermogravimetric data are presented.",
