Characteristic mode coupling in dipoles and dipole arrays

Abstract

The characteristic modes of both a single dipole and a linear dipole array are shown to exhibit mode coupling behavior similar to coupled modes in periodic waveguides. The mechanisms causing this coupling are explored, and the consequences of this coupling for an element impedance match are examined.
